Software-update: DC++ 0.705

Vandaag is versie 0.705 van het p2p-programma DC++ uitgekomen. Het gaat hier om een uitgave uit de ontwikkeltak, de laatste stabiele versie is 0.699 en die dateert alweer van december 2006. DC++ is een van de vele programma's die beschikbaar zijn om bestanden uit te wisselen via het Direct Connect-netwerk. De twee plussen aan het eind dankt dit programma aan het feit dat het in C++ geschreven is. Het programma wordt ontwikkeld door Jacek Sieka en is een opensource variant van de originele NeoModus Direct Connect-client. Het changelog van deze release laat de volgende veranderingen zien:

Je kunt hem wel laten zoeken op alternatieve downloadlocaties bij andere users (ofwel multiple sources), doet hij zelfs automatisch. LanVlam bedoelt segmented download, ofwel 1 bestand in stukjes hakken en die stukjes bij verschillende mensen downloaden.
Dat kan DC++ niet. Vanwege verschillende redenen:
- het is buggy
- het geeft vaak bestanden die corrupt zijn
- het is niet per definitie sneller downloaden.
- vaak wordt de client gebanned bij hubs

Jammer dat FulDC++ ermee is gestopt. Ik zit de laatste tijd op de oude AirDC++, maar die wordt ook niet vaak ge-update. In tegenstelling tot vroegah wordt er niet meer zo geprogrammeerd aan DC++ en haar clones.

Hm ik vond het altijd wel handig om een cd van 10 man tegelijk te downloaden. Voor zover ik weet is het hier nog nooit misgegaan. Eerst zat ik op revconnect, nu apexdc vanwege minder cpu belasting. Als je een keer aan die snelheid gewend bent is de gewone dc++ niet leuk meer. En van dat bannen, geen idee, ik gooi die rooien altijd gelijk uit de lijst.

Er zijn een paar goede clones.

Persoonlijk raad ik StrongDC++ aan. Echt een verademing ten opzichte van de originele client.

Vergelijkbaar met StrongDC is ApexDC++. Naar mijn idee gebruikt Apex meer geheugen dan Strong, vandaar dat ik bij strong blijf.

Deze zijn allebei nog actief in ontwikkeling! Daarnaast worden nieuwe ontwikkeling in de core (DC++) ook op een gegeven moment doorgevoerd in deze clones.
