Software-update: POP Peeper 3.1.0.0

Mortal Universe Software Entertainment heeft enkele dagen geleden versie 3.1.0.0 van Pop Peeper uitgebracht. Dit programma draait in de taakbalk van Windows en waarschuwt als er nieuwe e-mailberichten zijn. Er is ondersteuning voor zowel pop3 als smtp,en een groot aantal webbased diensten, waaronder Gmail, Hotmail en MSN, Yahoo, Mail.com, MyWay, Excite, Lycos en RediffMail. POP Peeper laat alleen de headers zien, waardoor onbelangrijke e-mails eenvoudig te verwijderen zijn voordat ze door een e-mailprogramma worden binnengehaald. In deze release is helaas nog steeds geen junkfilter toegevoegd, dit staat voor versie 4.0 op de planning. Wel is in versie 3.1 onder andere ssl/tls-ondersteuning voor imap toegevoegd en zijn er een hoop bugfixes doorgevoerd:

• Installation has option to install SSL plugin
• Compose New Message will use additional logic to determine the default account
• Imap uses the same timeout as POP3, specified in PPTweaker
• Certain Unicode character problems fixed
• Support for sending messages using Hebrew encoding (Windows-1255)
• Hold down ctrl when submitting forms for data to be transferred to IE successfully
• Empty passwords are now allowed when editing an account
• WebMail Validation has been removed
• The charset for the message list can now be defined in Select Font, to allow Chinese, Hebrew, etc.
• SMTP: Message-ID is generated for sent messages
• Default number of simultaneous checkmail threads changed from 1 to 2
• Default priority of mail threads is now below normal (previously, normal)

Fixed:

• Imap servers sending unsolicited BYE/disconnect caused timeout issues
• Imap packets broken up caused timeouts under certain circumstances
• Potential issue with Imap and Dial-up users causing high CPU usage
• Crash in certain case when closing view-message window (2)
• Dates greater than 2030 caused problems; now, certain future-dates will use current date/time
• Url's displayed in message status will display ampersands(&) when applicable
• Url's will be clickable when viewing a plain text message with charset-encoding
• Imap login data enclosed in quotes to allow spaces
• Hotmail, some users' links in html view were in javascript and could not be opened
• The number of characters typed into email client field is not limited to size of the control
• Koi8-r support for headers is re-enabled (inadvertently removed in v3.0)
• Yahoo, certain systems (IE5) would error out (PP: -1000, WinInet: 12045)
• Imap Preview: messages with a certain form of attachment would retrieve the entire message
• Imap Preview: inline attachments (e.g. images) are now displayed in the attachment list
• Email addresses containing '<' or '>' in name part were parsed incorrectly when replying
• Problems with switching account types in Create Account Wizard (by email address)
• Create Account Wizard now imports Imap accounts (Outlook Express and Mozilla-based clients)
• Compose window wasn't saving position/size when closed by using send/later
• Improved shutdown procedure so unsaved settings will save
• Embedded movies were being displayed in html even if using "Remove Remote Data"
• Unloading the Imap plugin after an Imap account had connected would crash
• Messages that were deleted when viewing a message would remain with Red-X if account not set to "remove messages not on server"
• Replying to certain GMail/Webmail messages quoted extraneous html code
• Statusbar stats wouldn't update when viewing "Outbox" and the current account was changed
• SendMail: shift-tabbing allowed focus on a disabled field
• Smtp Auth: if auth fails, fall back to another method
• General fixes
• Certain LiveMail accounts could not save attachments (ref: webmail v3.0.1.8)
• Using "Hide Seen" and "mark all messages as read" now hides the messages instantly
• TrayIcon updates when system display mode changes
• Toolbar buttons expanded to display all text after system events
• Underscores in QP converted to spaces
• AutoEnable button would toggle w/o user action in very special circumstances
• "View Entire WebPage" would enable for current message if viewed options and canceled
• Better recovery when imap-idle disconnects unexpectedly
• AddressBook: Sorting issue when there is a blank name
• Crash occurred if double-click on empty line in account list to create a new account (non-default pptweaker setting)
• Certain mailto links resolved the "to" address incorrectly
• Certain actions (running email client) caused trayicon to remain if it should have been hidden with no new mail
• Certain HTML messages didn't decode QP in quote of reply
• Only Ctrl+A works for select-all, not Ctrl+Shift/etc+A

Other:

• Using Common FileDialog won't change working directory (allows directory to be renamed/deleted after saving file, e.g.)
• New Message Summary limit raised from 5 to 10 (affects Skin Notifier plugin)
• Added auto-configuration for GMail/Imap
• On mark all read/unread, won't ask for account-password if account has no read/unread messages

Hier was ik laatst naar op zoek omdat ik hem in het verleden wel eens gebruikt heb. Wist de naam niet meer exact, maar gevonden en geinstalleerd! Zie ik nu 3.1.0 hier staan, ik checken, heb ik 3.2. Raar, dus ik kijk nog eens goed naar de naam, en het screenshot hier, gebruik ik PopTray (www.poptray.org)

Eigenlijk zelfde functionaliteit, alleen dan met spam-filter. Bevalt goed, net als Pop Peeper destijds.

Het verschil is dat je met poptray ook de emails kunt openen, dit programma doet niet veel meer dan de naam doet vermoeden, "piepen" als je een mailtje hebt

pop peeper, kan ook mail openen, ik lees altijd mijn hotmail en yahoo accounts via poppeeper.

Dit programma kan o.a. ook bij nieuwe e-mail de numlock led laten knipperen. Dwz, dit zou volgens de specificaties moeten kunnen echter werkt het bij mijn MS comfort curve 2000 (usb) niet. Iemand een idee om dit toch aan de praat te krijgen?

Wat ik nog mis in Poppeeper en Poptray is de mogelijkheid om IMAP mail door te sturen naar een andere mailaccount. Heb het bij Poppeeper al vaak aangegeven dit een handige optie te vinden.

Ik heb het net geinstalleerd, maar ik kon mijn mail (Gmail) niet ophalen.
Even later wou ik via de web-gmail inloggen en toen kreeg ik dit:

Ik weet niet of dit aan mij licht... is er iemand die dit probleem ook heeft/had?

Ik denk dat het niet duidelijker kan zijn dat het aan POP Peeper ligt dat je account tijdelijk is geblokkeerd.

Mja, maar dan zou elk programmaatje dat gmail checkt daar last van hebben. Mijn gmail checker in mijn sidebar (Vista) heeft daar nooit last van. Die zal toch ook in moeten loggen.

Als het daaraan ligt is het gewoon kwestie van de IMAP- of POP-functie van Gmail te gebruiken, dan kunnen ze moeilijk je account deactiveren omdat je 'third party' software gebruikt...

Je kunt ook gewoon je mailclient open laten staan, dan popt er ook een schermpje op bij een nieuwe mail. Hey, psst, je kunt dan zelfs op dat schermpje klikken! Wauw
