Voor beveiligde online conferenties kan je gebruik maken van het protocol Secure Internet Live Conferencing, beter bekend onder de afkorting SILC. Het ontwerp is vanaf het begin gericht om een beveiligde omgeving te maken en bevat veel mogelijkheden van IRC en IM protocollen. Ondersteuning voor multimedia berichten is aanwezig en daarnaast kan het ook voor video- en audio-conferenties gebruikt worden. SILC Client is zoals de naam al laat doorschemeren een clientapplicatie voor het opzetten van een verbinding met een SILC omgeving. De ontwikkelaars hebben de tweede bètaversie van SILC Client 1.1 de deur uitgedaan met de volgende aankondiging:
An entirely new version of SILC Client, the version 1.1 Beta2, is out. This is still in beta and can still have some issues. If you encounter any problems please report them either by sending bug report to silc-devel@lists.silcnet.org or fill out a bug report at http://silcnet.org/support/bugs.php.
The 1.1 is not full of new features, instead it is based on new rewritten client library and the upcoming SILC Toolkit 1.1. There are still couple of missing features that will appear in later beta releases.
