Hard drives have much improved since the good old days of the Seagate Medallist Pro (the first 7200RPM EIDE drive). In the first test, copying 1,282 files, totaling ~77MB, the Maxtor drive throttled the Medallist Pro, performing the copy twice as fast. The large cache of the DiamondMax, combined with good seek times, contributes to the excellent performance w/many small files. Granted, the Medallist Pro is the first 7200RPM drive and isn't exactly leading edge anymore. In the second test, the performance delta shrinks but the DiamondMax +40 is the clear winner yet again. It's hard to tell though, if the DiamondMax is a great performer or the Medallist Pro is a poor one, these benchmarks will be updated soon w/ performance numbers of newer drives to better tell the story.
