EBNews heeft een erg interessant artikel over de Intel chipset roadmap. Ace's Hardware was zo handig om een opsomming van de belangrijkste punten te posten:
The Intel 815, or Solano, which is expected to sample in January and will succeed the popular 440BX. The Solano will support PC133 SDRAM, an AGP 4X. Funny that Intel seems to prefer PC133 all of a sudden. A double-data-rate (DDR) chipset for desktop PCs. Incredible! Is intel totally dropping Rambus ? An Intel 870 server chipset that will use DDR SDRAM-based for high-end four- and eight-processor systems. the 870 may also be the chipset that supports the upcoming 64-bit Itanium. Even the Itanium will use DDR SDRAM instead of rambus! If this is true, RAMBUS is as good as dead. Who is going to invest in expensive RIMMS, when DDR SDRAM is going to be used in Intel and AMD based Desktops ? If even the expensive Itanium is not going to use RAMBUS ?
