Wow. The announcement really highlights how completely different directions 3dfx and NVidia are taking.NVidia is focusing on basically a single-chip design with massive transistor counts at fairly reasonable prices, while 3dfx is going with a more brute-force approach scaling between a reasonable-cost configuration to a massively parallel 4-32 chip configuration. NVidia is focusing on geometry rate, while 3dfx is focusing on fill rate. Each one's products will unquestionably win in its one area of focus and unquestionably lose in the other.
NVidia is working superclose with Microsoft on Direct3D evolution while 3dfx seems to be more doing their own thing.
My crystal ball is hazy on this one. It will be an interesting battle to watch!
