Guillemot Maxi Sound Fortissimo review

In the end, the FORTISSIMO is an inexpensive ($49.99) PCI sound card with an extensive list of features and good all around sound quality. Games, movies, and music all sounded pretty good, though they didn't blow us away. The rear channels turned out to be a letdown as only Slave Zero actually put them to noticeable use, but they did made for some fun four-speaker, neighbor-angering loudness in Quake 3 Arena Test. The MX-300 does gaming better. The SoundBlaster Live! does music better. The upcoming 5.1 channel cards will do movies better. But as far as all around value and versatility is concerned, you can't do better than the FORTISSIMO. If you're building a system on a budget and want to do a variety of things with the computer, then the Guillemot Maxi Sound FORTISSIMO is worth getting.
