Ok, take this as a FUD to the unix workstations market. However with the recent introduction of the Geforce256, for the first time in history x86 becomes a platform which doesn't suffer from second rate performance, while still offers its primary advantage, price. From benchmarks such as viewperf and indy3d, the K7 600+ and Geforce combo is challenged by very few unix/risc based workstations. The price for a setup like this due to the recent hike in memory will likely run about $2000 to $2500, counting the Geforce at around $300 and with 256MB+ memory. So here are a look at some geforce indy3d and viewperf scores compare to the highest official scores on sense8 and spec.org.
