So how did they do? The 500MHz K7/Athlon turns out a third better than the PIII (33% faster, that is). This is promising compared to the rumoured 20% advantage of the beta model (as reported on Upgrade Center long ago). If K7 and P6 both scale in the same fashion (benchmarks at Tom's have suggested that K7 might scale better as MHz goes up, but I digress), then it would take an 800MHz Pentium III to match a 600MHz K7/Athlon in this particular benchmark.
