Firingsquad heeft een review gepost van de nieuwe 7200rpm Fireball KA Plus van Quantum:
We ran the benchmarks on the Quantum drive with both UDMA 66 and UDMA 33 modes. The Quantum 66 drive was connected to the UDMA 66 port on the motherboard with the 80-pin IDE cable. The Quantum 33 drive was the same drive connected to the UDMA 33 port with a 40-pin IDE cable. We threw in a Western Digital 5400RPM drive to show the differences between 7200RPM and 5400RPM.As expected, the Quantum UDMA 66 drive took the Business Disk and High End Disk tests handily. Yes, UDMA-66 does outperform UDMA-33. The differences between the Quantum UDMA 33 and UDMA 66 in the CPU utilization time and Access time are close to negligible. According to the Winbench numbers, the Quantum's access time is actually lower than the advertised 8.5ms. (11.9ms - 4.17ms average rotational latency = 7.73ms)
On a side note, we ran a Winbench test set on the Quantum drive with DMA disabled. The CPU utilization went up to 47.4%, and the Disk WinMark scores were substantially lower (10-30%) than the drive's UDMA 33 scores.
