Both processors continue the proven Intel P6 processor core. The Pentium III adds the MMX and SIMD Streaming Extensions (SSE) instructions; the Celeron adds only the MMX instructions. The Pentium III has a 512KB L2 cache in the processor module; the Celeron has a 128KB cache (but runs the cache at full speed). We covered the performance payoff you can expect from a Pentium III using SSE versus a processor without those extensions (like the Celeron) in our earlier Pentium III review, so we won't retread that ground here.
