Andi, author of CpuIdle, tells us of a new beta of his CpuIdle program. It is not reported on the main CpuIdle page, but I bugged him enough for him tell us where to get it! CpuIdle lowers the CPU temperature by disabling it when not needed. This prolongs the CPU life (a decrease by 10°C doubles the life span) and cuts power consumption. Unlike normal power management, CpuIdle is active all the time and works even when you're actively using your computer. Here is what he told me about the release:"I finally came around to make a CpuIdle 5.6 Beta version. It includes lots of bugfixes, some performance enhancements and support for the latest MBM version. I have not yet put a notice on my website- don't look for it ;-)"
