Anchor Chips states that the EZLink USB Instant Network should be able to transfer up to "5M bits/sec" between PCs, which is roughly a megabyte every two seconds. You were probably asking yourself "what's the catch" while reading this rosy portrait of the EZLink USB kit, and now you've found it.
We don't predict that a home network used primarily for gaming or web surfing will ever tax the EZLink USB's maximum performance level, at least that's what our staff found while using the system. In games like Quake3 or Half-Life for example, we found that ping times stayed in the 15 - 20ms range while using the USB LAN kit, which allowed for an almost identical experience to our standard Ethernet LAN. Also, for file transfers up to 200MB the time to transfer hovered in the three to five minute rage, depending upon file sizes and quantities which is acceptable for most home use.
