In a Gamecenter interview, Ken Potashner, president and CEO of S3, explained the reasons for the acquisition: "There were two primary reasons [for the merger]," Potashner said. "One, we wanted to be able to diversify our technology base, leveraging our skills and competencies in high-growth markets like Internet appliances and home networking. In addition, Diamond is a graphics board supplier; we see tremendous synergy in codesigning our products and great economics with that integration."
