To say the engine used in Mechwarrior 3 is optimized is an understatement. Users with slower machines will be absolutely amazed at how smooth this game runs, even without a 3d accelerator. Make no mistake, the engine is impressive. Although you can only pump the resolution up to 1024x768, the game look sharp, colorful, and best of all, runs at insanely high frame rates with a pretty good machine. The most astonishing point of this game is easily the attention to detail with the graphics. Lasers leave burn marks (even sizzle when hitting the water!), Mechs crunch cement and leave giant foot prints on surfaces they've walked on, along with the overly dramatic smoke that emits from volleys of missiles being launched. The amount of eye candy in this title warrants realism that far surpasses that of Mechwarrior 2.
