Volgens The Register zal Intel pas eind dit jaar 550Mhz en 600MHz versies van de Coppermine (= PIII met 256Kb on-die L2 cache). Dat betekend goed nieuws voor AMD:
Intel is not confirming or denying that its Coppermine process will be delayed, because it won't speak about unannounced products.But the word on the street is that CuMine, is, indeed, on the back burner.
According to various reports, Intel will release 550MHz and 600MHz parts at the end of the year, and a 666MHz part in the first quarter of next year.
Problems, problems. Compromises, compromises.
But the delay, if true, will give succour to chip rival AMD. Intel's strategy was to introduce CuMine early and queer AMD's pitch.
