Diamond Multimedia Systems today announced the licensing of its Shotgun modem-bonding technology to Conexant Systems, Inc. Shotgun technology provides a powerful connection to the Internet by bonding the data streams of two modems to work together over two ordinary phone lines.Diamond Multimedia was one of the first companies to bring 56 Kbps (kilobits per second) modems to market and among the first to deliver V.90 modems under the Supra brand name. The company launched Shotgun technology to enable consumers and small businesses to experience Internet connection speeds of up to 112 Kbps.
Shotgun technology offers the capability of releasing one phone line for voice calls while maintaining an Internet connection on the other line. Additional features include bandwidth-on-demand and voice priority. The technology is featured in the dual-line Diamond SupraSonic II modem (estimated retail price $149.95) and is also included in Diamond Multimedia's entire line of PC-based SupraExpress 56K V.90 modems.
