In the tradition of Command & Conquer, Dark Reign 2 will emphasize soldiers over vehicles. "We want to go back to the idea of infantry and make these guys powerful and fun to play with," Candler says. "It seems like in most strategy games the idea of infantry is not well thought out and infantry is just easy to run over." In addition to formidable weaponry, Pandemic is including spell abilities to make infantry more powerful. One of the Tribe units is the Voodoun, a witch doctor of sorts who can heal units, blind enemies, and amass the spirits of dead enemies to summon something big and mean called a Baron Samedi. "It will stomp across the terrain and destroy anything in its path," says Borrud.
