TechCentral meldt dat IBM en Fujitsu een samenwerking zijn aangegaan op het gebied van telecommunicatie. Nog voor het eind van dit jaar willen ze hun telecomproducten op elkaar hebben afgestemd. Het gaat daarbij om IBM's WebSphere Telecom Application Server en Fujitsu's GeoServe. De producten zullen worden geïntegreerd op basis van Parlay, een standaard voor telecomapplicaties die door een groot deel van de industrie wordt gesteund. De bedrijven willen het mogelijk maken dat een applicatie met beide servers kan werken en hopen zo ontwikkelaars te stimuleren software op basis van Parlay te schrijven. IBM is in ieder geval enthousiast over de standaard:
"The initial phase of Parlay applications has been oriented toward letting people more easily provision communications services through the Web, like conferencing or notification," said Marty Slatnick, Software Group executive for IBM's Telecommunications Technology Solutions.
But by using Parlay to take advantage of telecommunications carriers' services, a person could choose to get a notification of a stock quote, for example, through different mediums at different times--like e-mail, a short text message on a cell phone or a voice mail, said Slatnick.
