Bij The Smashed Stack is een kleine guide verschenen over hoe je een LCD display in je computer kan bouwen. Iets wat een fluitje van een cent is als je een display van Crystalfontz koopt samen met een mounting bracket en kabels. Dan is het alleen een kwestie van de juiste software downloaden, en indien je een backlight wilt gebruiken moet je even een stroomkabeltje aan de unit vast solderen. Staat erg

There are a lot of different types and sizes of LCD's that you could possibly use on your computer. I won't go through all those with you, if you would like to look, try the list of compatible hardware on the LCDriver site. I used the 16x2 "632" model from Crystalfontz. In my opinion, Crystalfontz displays are the best displays that are currently available, because they already come preassembled (that means less soldering), they're inexpensive, and they also have no horizontal divider between characters, which means you can do per-pixel scrolling. The LCD's come as either reflective or backlit. The reflective LCD's simply have a mirror behind the LCD, and the backlit ones have a light behind them. Even though reflective LCD's have a slightly better viewing angle (notice that you can't read an LCD if looking from a sharp angle), but they are basically useless in the dark. Therefore, spend a couple extra bucks and get the backlit one.
