The picture quality for this product is, in a word, excellent. The colours are crisp and the 0.25mm dot pitch ensures a very sharp image. There is some very minor distortion in the corners, but is only noticeable if you are looking for it. In addition to my other petty complaints about this product, like the Trinitron series of monitors, there are two fine lines running across the screen. These are the retention wires and they are an unfortunate necessity for flat CRT (cathode ray tube) monitors.
All in all, I was very impressed with my purchase (minor quibbles aside). If I had to buy a new monitor today, I would definately get the ViewSonic PF790 again. It should be added, however, that ViewSonic has released an improved version of the PF790, namely, the PF795. The PF795 looks to be very similar to the PF790, except with the addition of higher available resolutions and higher refresh rates for the resolutions available on the PF790. Unfortunately, the PF795 is not nearly as widely available as the PF790.
