Bij Planet Hardware kun je vandaag terecht voor een uitgebreide review van de AIWA CDC-MP3, een autoradio cd-speler die tevens MP3 cd's slikt. Standaard krijg je bij dit apparaat een handige remote control, zodat je veilig beide handjes aan het stuur kunt houden 
. Daarnaast is vanwege een wegkantelend frontje het LCD-display groot en dus duidelijk leesbaar. Toch was niet alles even goed met de bediening. Zo bleek bijvoorbeeld de random functie erg wazig te werken, en ook de laadtijd van 20-25 seconde bij het inserten van een disc kan vrij irriterend zijn. Er waren verder nog wel meer kinderziektes te bespeuren, hopelijk zijn die in nieuwere types gefixed. Wil je desondanks nu al een MP3-autoradio, dan heb je met de AIWA CDC-MP3 volgens onderstaande conclusie een vrij goede deal te pakken:
Although the Aiwa CDC-MP3 head unit has its share of issues and hassles, we still feel it is a successful product. Aiwa managed to incorporate the ability to play mp3 files into their already popular line of head units, and kept the price point at a very reasonable $300 MSRP. The only other mp3 head unit on the market is the Kenwood Z919, and it costs ~$700. For the price, the Kenwood unit offers less features than the CDC-MP3, no detachable face, and slightly better audio quality. In the end, we expect the large number of customers to go with the superior Aiwa CDC-MP3 unit.
[...] The bottom line is that, despite the minor issues with the CDC-MP3, we recommend it to those that are absolutely dying for mp3 in their car. If you can hold out till this summer, when we expect the second generation of units to be on the market, we suggest waiting - there are a ton of improvements that can be made upon these initial designs. But, for $300, the Aiwa CDC-MP3 does the job fairly well, and we can't complain too loudly - mp3 has finally gone mainstream.
