Seagate introduced two new drive families which offer Ultra ATA/66 interfaces and non-operating shock of up to 300 Gs for extra protection during shipping and installation.The Medalist 17242 family offers 9-millisecond average seeks, a 512-Kbyte buffer, and capacity from 4.3 to 17.2 Gbytes. According to Jennifer Bradfield, product marketing manager for desktop drives, the new Medalists are Seagate's fastest drives, and targeted the mainstream PC market.
The U4 drive family is designed for the sub-$1,000 PC market, and offers 8.4-Gbytes capacity, 10.5-millisecond average seeks, and a 256-Kbyte buffer.
Bradfield said the new drives will support the new generation of motherboards with on-board Ultra ATA/66 interfaces.
De levering van de nieuwe drives zal beginnen in April. Voor de U4 drive zal nog ff gewacht moeten worden tot juni/juli.
