The Cordless TrackMan Wheel is a good, but not great, optical trackball. It does not seem to track as consistently as we expected an optical trackball would. We are not sure if it is due to the wireless signal speed or the optical refresh rate, but when we moved the trackball quickly from side to side, the screen cursor did not keep up.
The $59.95 price also seems high. We recognize that this is a cordless unit, but competing optical products are in the channel for at least $15 less which offer a higher optical refresh rate, a larger trackball, and a better button layout.
That does bring us to our final concern -- the button layout. We would have preferred larger buttons without gaps on the left and right. This would help to reduce the chance of confusion during fast-paced gameplay.
If you play games like SimCity 3000 and Diablo II, where mouse speed is not all that important and the occasional missed button click will not cause problems, this trackball may work well for you. But if you need something more accurate, we suggest looking at the competition.
