Gaming in 3D heeft een test gedaan tussen de slot1 Golden Orb en de standaard retail koeler van de gebruikte Intel Pentium III 800E processor. Het opmerkelijke van de review is dat de slot1 Orb minder goed koelt dan de retail HSF! De idle temperatuur is bij beiden nog gelijk, maar tijdens zwaar werk loopt het verschil op tot 2-3 graden Celsius in het voordeel dus van de retail cooler.
As you can see, the retail heatsink/fan actually outperforms the GOrb under load. I attribute this to the amount of pressure the GOrb is held onto the CPU. When I first installed the GOrb, the fit was sort of loose and I was getting a fairly high idle temperature. I bent the tabs on the mounting clip to provide for more mounting pressure and got the above scores, which were slightly better. I tried bending the tabs even further but had difficulty moving them even more. The pressure that the retail heatsink provided seems to be much greater, just by the fact that the heatsink tends to pop off when you remove the plastic mounting tabs. The same isn't so when I remove the mounting mechanism for the GOrb.
As far as overclocking is concerned, I cannot overclock any higher with the GOrb than I could with the retail heatsink/fan. 959MHz is the absolute highest that the CPU is 100% stable at. 967MHz crashes in 3DMark 2000. 1GHz POSTs, but doesn't boot. Bummer.

In de uiteindelijke conclusie kan de reviewer de slot1 Golden Orb dus ook niet aanraden aan mensen die dus al een retail HSF hebben, maar door de lage prijs en het feit dat de Orb geen dimm banken onbruikbaar maakt kan het een oplossing zijn voor mensen die een OEM P3 hebben gekocht.
