Kryotech reseller SYS heeft aangekondigd dat zij in oktober met een supergekoelde 1,5GHz Thunderbird op de markt komen. De eerder aangekondigde 1,25GHz systemen worden overgeslagen omdat AMD al op korte termijn een 1,2GHz Thunderbird zal introduceren. Een verdere vertraging is mogelijk afhankelijk van de beschikbaarheid van DDR mobo's en geheugens:
SYS Cold-Fusion system configurations based on the new AMD Athlon with Enhanced Cache (Thunderbird) processor will be added presently. At this time (mid-August) it appears unlikely that we will post the new configurations before mid to late September - for shipments in October. In October we expect to be shipping systems running at approximately 1.5GHz.
Please note that the September and related October time frames are tentative. There are several inter-related technologies, and their associated development schedules, that may cause us to delay the release beyond these dates. In particular, there is the possibility of the release of motherboards which support DDR (double data rate) SDRAM. [Dual processor-based configurations are not expected to be available before Q1 2001.]
We sincerely regret the inconvenience these delays cause. However, there seems to be little good reason to launch a product just to have it upstaged within a few weeks by the “next big thing”.
