Go!zilla benadeelt GetRight op criminele wijze

Zijn de programmeurs van downloadhulp Go!zilla het verkeerde pad in geslagen? De site van concurrent GetRight meldt dat Go!zilla zonder dit te melden de Click-monitor van GetRight uitschakelt en zelfs de snelkoppeling uit het startmenu haalt! Erg brutaal. Uiteraard is er een manier om GetRight weer werkend te krijgen, maar waarschijnlijk hebben de makers van GetRight liever dat je Go!zilla verwijderd:

If GetRight's monitoring is turned on when Go!Zilla 3.9 is started, Go!Zilla does the following:

• Turns off GetRight's click monitoring settings.
• Turns its own click monitoring settings on...even if you'd turned them off earlier.
• And Deletes GetRight's shortcut from your StartUp Group!
• No message or confirmation is given by Go!Zilla about any of these changes to your settings. Yes, really. It deletes shortcuts for another program and doesn't even tell you.

To Fix:

• If you start Go!Zilla 3.9, you must then follow the steps below for Turning GetRight Back On. (We're working so GetRight will better detect and fix itself; but for now, every time after Go!Zilla is started, you must do the Turning GetRight Back On steps.)
• You must also copy the GetRight Tray Icon back into your StartUp group.
  • Right click the Windows "Start" button, then pick "Open"
  • In the Explorer window, pick "Programs", then "GetRight".
  • Select the "GetRight Tray Icon" item there, then pick the Edit->Copy menu item.
  • Again Right click the Windows "Start" button
  • In the Explorer window, pick "Programs", then "StartUp".
  • Pick the Edit->Paste menu item.
  • So it won't get deleted in the future, you may want to rename the new "GetRight Tray Icon" to be something different, like "Start GetRight".

Uninstalling:

• Go!Zilla uninstalls the same as most programs, from the Windows Control Panel, Add/Remove programs.
• Look for "Go!Zilla".

Ok dit is natuurlijk wel erg lomp. Maar bij Getright zijn ze ook niet heilig. Alle versies van Getright hoger dan 3.31 installeren ongevraagd de Aureate software die naar Aureate doorstuurt welke software je op je hd hebt staan en welke multimedia bestanden je afspeelt, plus je browse gedrag doorstuurt. Gebruik dus een oude versie van Getright als je een download manager wilt.

Weet je dit zeker: Ik vondt dit op in de FAQ op getricht.com:

"After spending more than 200 hours examining the operation and function of the version 2 Aureate software system, I was unable to discover any capability for it to inventory or browse the user's hard drive or registry."

Ok hoe bedoel je we dulden geen concurrentie dit is nog erger dan tussen explorer en netscape.
Maar nu effe serieus waarom klagen ze die gasten niet gewoon aan wij mogen toch ook geen proggrama's maken die iets vernielen de software makers doen nu precies hetzelfde

Dit lijkt wel een beetje op de "oorlog" tussen media players, zoals WinAmp, Sonique, RealPlayer en Windows Media Player. Ze installeren allemaal tray icons en startup items die de .mp3 (en andere multimedia) extensions proberen over te nemen. Dat geeft soms echt de grootste teringzooi...

Ik denk eigenlijk wel dat er steeds meer van dit soort praktijken gaan komen. Zo van "please wait, installing GoZilla..." en dan in de achtergrond ff GetRight uninstall draaien of zoiets. Of "Cannot install Microsoft Office if StarOffice is installed".

Ok mijn conspiracy theory in e e n zin:

Het kan ook zijn dat Getright's monitoring functie kijkt of Go!Zilla opgestart is om vervolgens die crimenele dingen te doen zodat Getright onschuldig lijkt maar in feite de boosdoener is en Go!Zilla zo te kunnen beschuldigen dat zij hun software benadelen op een criminele wijze zodat iedereen denkt dat Go!Zilla de bad guy met als resultaat dat iedereen Getright gaat registreren in plaats van Go!Zilla....

Dat zou natuurlijk ook mogelijk zijn. In dat geval is GetRight een nog ergere bedrieger dan Go!Zilla nu lijkt, maar dat lijkt me sterk hoor. Dat zou wel een erg lage streek zijn, hoewel die van Go!Zilla dat ook is indien deze melding waar is.

Warschijnlijk horen we hier nog wel meer van.

In al deze reacties mis ik toch even een stukkie on-bevooroordeeld inzicht! Kom op zeg, het is toch niet doenlijk om twee programma's te hebben draaien die precies hetzelfde doen?
OK, Gozilla had even een berichtje aan de gebruiker moeten geven.

Het is gewoon niet logisch om die twee programma's samen te hebben draaien, puur logisch dat ze zoiets erin hebben geprogrammeerd. Blijft natuurlijk leip om niet even met de gebruiker te overleggen.

Beste politieman, ik vertel u nu al voor de zoveelste keer dat mijn Getright-icoontje mij wederrechtelijk werd ontnomen!

Inderdaad best lullig dat je icoontje ervan verdwijnt, maar ik zou liever van beide zien dat dat stomme klikgedraggemonitor eens nokt. Ik snap best dat het heel nuttig voor ze is, maar dat gegluur op mijn (niet overklokte) computer hoef ik niet zo.

Zelf gebruik ik trouwens Go!zilla,...die liet m'n boel minder vaak crashen dan Getright.

Lijkt mij wel handig anders krijg je twee of meerdere popups met "opslaan als"
dus ik weet niet wat jullie allemaal lopen te zeiken want als tweaker zijnde is het toch niet zo moeilijk om dat ene dingetje weer terug te zetten
