Covington en Klamath zijn dood

Intel is definitief gestop met de productie van de oude Celeron zonder cache (Covington) en de Klamatch, de 0,35 micron opa-PII.

The original Celeron is discontinued, Intel confirmed today. The processor, launched in spring this year, gave way to later revisions of the brand name with a faster Mendocino core.

And Intel has also decided to discontinue the PII/233, the PII/266 and the PII/300. It will continue to supply the processors to those with existing orders until November 1999, a representative said.

The move means that Intel will now concentrate on pushing its higher clocked PIIs, with the Pentium II/333 now the entry level processor.

Distributors reported some weeks ago that there was a shortage of PII/266 and PII/300 parts, and the announcement by Intel is, in some respects, a solution to these problems.

There are unlikely to be any changes on PII prices until early January, however.
