ASUSTeK Computer Inc. recently launched its enhanced 12x DVD-E612 DVD-ROM drive with the unique servo technology from ASUS, which supports the latest ATA-66 data transfer mode. This latest DVD-ROM drive provides complete compatibility with major CD-ROM formats, making it a suitable replacement for the present generation of CD-ROM drives, while adding support for DVD-ROM discs.
The ASUS DVD-E612 offers 12x-speed (16,200 KB/sec) reads of DVD-ROM discs and a whopping 40-speed (6,000 KB/sec) reads of CD-ROM discs. The ASUS DVD-E612 features an ATAPI interface that supports PIO mode 4, DMA multi-word mode 2 and latest ATA-66 transfer mode. Under Windows 95/98/2000, this Plug-n-Play drive can be easily installed. DVD adopts an UDF bridge format, which is composed of ISO 9660 and UDF, providing backward compatibility between various operating systems. The ASUS DVD-E612 drive can, therefore, run flawlessly with every major operating system.
DVD technology allows the discs to hold 4.7GB to 17GB of data depending on the format, several times more than what can be stored on a traditional CD-ROM disc.
