Eerder schreven wij dat het best zou kunnen dat VIA iets heel moois overhield aan de deal met S3: het zou kunnen doorgaan met support voor Intel Slot 1 technologie. VIA zou deze mogelijkheid binnenkort gaan verliezen. Bij The Register valt nu te lezen dat het niks geholpen heeft: De cross-licensing deals tussen S3 en Intel zitten niet in het deel dat VIA heeft gekocht:
The source said that the cross-licensing deals between S3 and Intel, which came about as a result of some wise buying of Exponential patents, were not part of the territory that Via has bought.
While that will offer some relief to Intel, it means that we are set for a long hard battle through multiple courts across the world, delighting m'learned friends but probably leaving the rest of us bitter and twisted.
Het is nu hopen dat alles nog goed komt voor VIA...
