Linksys ontwikkelt zijn firmware voor verschillende routers op basis van het Linux-platform. De broncode is daarom beschikbaar voor iedereen en zijn er verschillende mensen bezig geweest met het ontwikkelen van hun eigen firmware voor deze routers die voorzien worden in hun eigen wensen. DD-WRT is er hier één van en ondersteunt tegenwoordig veel 802.11g draadloze routers, gebaseerd op chip reference designs van Broadcom. De ontwikkelaar heeft een derde release candidate uitgebracht van versie 24 waarmee ondersteuning voor onder andere de Asus WL500W wordt toegevoegd. De aankondiging ziet er als volgt uit:

The most interesting news might be that the WRT54G v8 and the WRT54GS v7 is now fully supported, but requires again a special flashing way, which is easier this time compared to the v5 and v6 vxworks killer. Additionally the Asus WL500W got into our support list as well. Last but not least the long awaited bandwith monitor is now included.

DD-WRT v24 RC2
While RC1 was silently released i decided to make a bigger anouncement this time. First sorry about all the silence of the last weeks but we spended over one month into testing of the v24 firmware which took almost all time i have in my life. finally RC2 is out now and i hope that our pppoe issues are gone now. RC builds for the Fonera, X86 and Avila builds will follow soon, since we are still in deeper tests on these platforms.
