Abiword is een tekstverwerker met als grootste kracht zijn compatibiliteit met de meest uit één lopende formaten tekstbestanden. Daarnaast draait het programma op tal van verschillende besturingssystemen. Het ontwikkelteam is begonnen met een ontwikkelversie die naar productieversie 2.4 moet leiden. Het versienummer is vastgesteld op 2.3.0 en wordt geleverd met de volgende release notes:

This snapshot allows interested developers, testers and users a sneak preview into the future of AbiWord.
New features of this release include (amongst others):AbiWord v2.3.0 is parallel installable with AbiWord v2.2 so users can try it out without disturbing their stable AbiWord 2.2 version. We are very much interested in any bug you may find. Please report these to http://bugzilla.abisource.com/.
