Release v4.9.0This update is a small one that most notably fixes an annoyance many of you have reported to us: That after the 4.8.0 update, Zettlr would very often give you an annoying "Update failed" error. Nothing bad happened, and you could work perfectly fine thereafter, but it was indeed annoying. It took us a few days to find, fix, and test the issue, but we believe the error message should now be gone again.
Other than that, there are three additional notable changes in this release. First, Zettlr no longer supports macOS 12 and Ubuntu 17.04 (and below). These operating systems are no longer supported by their manufacturers, and so Zettlr follows Electron in dropping support for these. Second, this update fixes a security vulnerability, specifically the one caused by faulty eMudhra TLS certificates. Therefore, we recommend immediate update. And third, and last, we decided to drop in a small new feature: The image renderer can now not just render inline images (where the source of the image is defined alongside the image), but also refrence-style images, where the source of the image is defined somewhere else in the document. Note, however, that reference-style image captions cannot be edited in place, but must be edited in the reference itself.
Deprecation: macOS 12 and Ubuntu 17.04 no longer supportedThis release updates Electron, Zettlr's underlying application framework, to version 44. This means that Zettlr will no longer run on macOS 12 or Ubuntu 17.04 or earlier. If you run such a system, please consider updating your computer to continue using Zettlr.
GUI and FunctionalityUnder the Hood
- Feature: Zettlr now correctly renders images that have been defined using the reference-style variant. So instead of only rendering images in the form
, it can now also render reference style images in the form![alt text][reference], with the reference being defined elsewhere (#663).- Fixed an issue where a URL in an image caption would be improperly treated as the image source (#6594).
- Fixed an issue where toggling a task mark would scroll the viewport back to the cursor position. Now, the viewport does not scroll when a task mark is toggled, though the cursor position is retained (#6603).
- Fixed an issue that would cause jumping of the editor content upon externally modifying a file (#6531; #6543).
- Fixed an issue that caused excessive "failed to check for updates" errors (#6574).
- Fixed an issue preventing files with non-lowercase extensions from showing up and being correctly treated by Zettlr (#6613).
- Fixed a bug that would cause the statusbars of split views visible on top of distraction-free views when using a split-view layout (#6581).
- The Table Editor now uses the wrapper element's height instead of just the table element's. This might further improve issues with the editor jumping around as large tables and documents with many tables are edited (#5732).
- Fixed a startup crash when a workspace contains an Electron
.asararchive (#6551).
- Update Electron to
v44.9.1. This drops macOS 12 and Ubuntu 17.04. Furthermore, this includes a mitigation for the vulnerable eMudhra certificates (see GitHub AdvisoryGHSA-jr5w-w6x2-84p9).- Update Pandoc to
v3.12.1. This changes how admonitions/alerts are rendered and may require updates to your custom template CSS for HTML exports.- Upgrade Mermaid to
v12.1.0.- Centralized update check logic.
- Fully switched the update provider from the outdated
gotdependency to both purefetch(where necessary) orky(where convenient).- Move the link preview generation to
ky.- Fully remove all dependencies on
got, and remove the module entirely.- Ensure VS Code uses the workspace's TypeScript version instead of the built-in one to avoid issues where the linter sees different issues than VS Code.
