Software-update: Mozilla Thunderbird 150.0

De Mozilla Foundation heeft versie 150.0 van Thunderbird uitgebracht. Thunderbird is een opensourceclient voor e-mail en nieuwsgroepen met ondersteuning voor verschillende mail- en newsaccounts. Verder zijn er een spamfilter, spellingscontrole, kalender en adresboek, en heeft het een aanpasbaar uiterlijk. Thunderbird is beschikbaar in twee verschillende versies, die beide als stabiel worden aangeduid. De eerste wordt vaker voorzien van nieuwe functionaliteit en wordt als Release-versie aangeboden; de andere, de Extra Support Release-versie, wordt alleen van bugfixes en stabiliteitsverbeteringen voorzien. In deze uitgave zijn de volgende veranderingen en verbeteringen aangebracht:

Message body search enabled for OpenPGP and S/MIME encrypted messages

Gisteren OpenPGP getest via Thunderbird. Werkt heel eenvoudig, en maakte het mogelijk om een versleuteld mail te sturen naar een Proton adres vanaf een normaal (KPN Mail) adres dat zelf geen ondersteuning heeft voor OpenPGP.

Er is altijd veel kritiek op PGP, maar jammer dat het niet zo breed wordt ondersteunt. Of in ieder geval jammer dat er geen breed ondersteund protocol is die alle platformen ondersteunen voor versleutelde berichten via mail.

Thunderbird Mobile (het voormalige K-9 Mail) heeft ook ondersteuning voor OpenPGP.

Vaste reactie van mijn collega's: "huh? Bij mij vindt outlook deze mail nergens?!" . Alleen al vanwege het zoeken wil je niets anders dan Thunderbird.
