Software-update: ExifTool 13.01

Phil Harvey heeft versie 13.01 van ExifTool uitgebracht. ExifTool is een gratis crossplatformprogramma waarmee de metadata van een groot aantal bestanden kan worden beheerd en bewerkt. Het werkt vanaf de commandline, maar er zijn oplossingen van derden beschikbaar waardoor het ook met een grafische gebruikersinterface kan worden gebruikt. Met enige regelmaat verschijnen er nieuwe versies, maar de meeste uitgaven worden onder de bètavlag beschikbaar gesteld. Ook deze update wordt als ontwikkelversie aangeduid; de laatste stabiele uitgave is versie 13.00. In deze uitgave zijn de volgende veranderingen en verbeteringen aangebracht:

Changes in version 13.01:

• NOTE: Please test the new API WindowsLongPath option because the idea is to enable this by default if everything works out well
• Fixed bug which could result in runtime warning if when API IgnoreTags option is set to "all" when reading a TXT file format
• Fixed problem reading some information from LNK files
• Fixed verbose output to show "Binary data" message for SCALAR values
• Fixed bug where part of the hex dump from a -v3 output could go to stdout instead of the file specified by a -w option
• API Changes:
  • Added WindowsLongPath option for testing
  • Changed CharsetFileName option to automatically assume UTF8 if the file name contains special characters and is valid UTF8

Honestly, there is very little difference between a development and a production release. The main goal is to define an arbitrary 2-month-ish period between releases to reduce the workload for those who don't want to be updating more frequently.

You can effectively consider any development release as stable.
