X File Explorer, ook wel Xfe genoemd, is een filemanager voor de X-omgeving. De basis van dit programma ligt bij het destijds populaire X Win Commander maar omdat de ontwikkeling hiervan stop werd gezet is men begonnen met de ontwikkeling van Xfe. Sinds kort is versie 0.70 beschikbaar gesteld door Roland Baudin. De release notes en het changelog sinds de vorige release zien er als volgt uit:
This release supports the new FOX 1.2.x stable library. The main visible change is the support of anti-aliased fonts. Also, some minor GUI changes have been done and some bugs have been fixed.

- fixed a bug in DirListBox with the expand/collapse tree commands
- fixed a bug when hiding the status bar : now, the entire bar can be hidden
- fixed the date format in the Properties dialog

- now Xfe is more responsive whith broken NFS or SMB mounts!

- add of the directory path to the window title (thanks to Drayke Naiobrin for the initial patch)
- changed the way the file names are sorted. Now, upper cases are no more sorted first. This is more consistent with other file managers.
