Phil Harvey heeft versie 12.46 van ExifTool uitgebracht. ExifTool is een gratis en crossplatformprogramma waarmee de metadata van een groot aantal bestanden kan worden beheerd en bewerkt. Het werkt vanaf de commandline, maar er zijn oplossingen van derden beschikbaar waardoor het ook met een grafische gebruikersinterface kan worden gebruikt. Met enige regelmaat verschijnen er nieuwe versies, maar de meeste uitgaven worden onder de bètavlag beschikbaar gesteld. Ook deze update wordt als ontwikkelversie aangeduid; de laatste stabiele uitgave is versie 12.42. In deze uitgave zijn de volgende veranderingen en verbeteringen aangebracht:

- Patched to test QuickTime UserData tags with default 0x0000 language code to see if they contain UTF8 characters, and if so assume UTF8 encoding and ignore the CharsetQuickTime setting
- Patched to avoid potential deep recursion when reading/writing malicious CRW images
- Fixed "Invalid ID3 frame size" problem when reading ID3v2 with an extended header (very uncommon, but Audacity uses this)
- Fixed typo in the name of a new DNG 1.6 tag
- Fixed some verbose warnings when reading Nikon Z-camera NEF files
- Fixed decoding of a couple of Nikon Z9 tags for newer firmware versions (thanks Warren Hatch)
