Veel websites hebben een forum waar de gebruikers met elkaar verschillende discussies aan kunnen gaan. Om dit in een overzichtelijke vorm te doen is een handig stukje software nodig zodat je verschillende rechten kan toekennen waarmee het forum beheert kan worden. Één van de betere forum pakketten is vBulletin, deze is ontwikkeld voor een web server met een PHP omgeving en een MySQL database.
Het ontwikkelteam van vBulletin heeft sinds kort versie 3.0.0 Gold uitgebracht waarin een hoop veranderingen zijn terug te vinden. De release notes zien er dan ook als volgt uit:

- The 'liquid' style is now the default style. This is more in line with what most people are used to when they visit a forum.
- Many bugs are fixed, but that's not new news.
Some of the bugs fixed since RC4:
- Adminpermissions not checked in all files.
- IE 5 displays text files inline instead of downloading.
- Displaying template names in HTML comments causes Javascript error when attaching files.
- Style chooser not displayed in cases when it should be.
- Replacement variables not imported correctly from vB2.
- HTML tags from the WYSIWYG parser are now stripped from [ html] and [ php] tags.
- CSS images broken when vBulletin set to store CSS as files but can't.
- Attachments not always deleted from the filesystem.
- Email parser now accepts IDN domains.
- Bulk emailer now prevented from potentially executing very large queries.
- Forums not always listed in search engine when they should be.
- Poll results may be displayed with the wrong style.
- Expand/collapse button causes error when used on a forum with no children.
- Announcements shown according to browsing user's timezone.
- Moderators may not physically delete threads/posts in the moderation queue if they do not have physical delete perms.
- 'Go Back' button removed when not usable.
- Thread highlighting incorrect when searching for 'class'.
- Various phrase and template problems.
- Several WYSIWYG parsing issues.
- Several XSS issues.
