Software-update: MailWasher Pro 3.4.0

Het is alweer een flinke tijd geleden dat de populaire anti-spam tool MailWasher ophield freeware te zijn en verder ging als het shareware MailWasher Pro. Die verandering, hoewel niet leuk voor een hoop tweakers die of hun beurs moesten trekken of op zoek moesten naar alternatieve software, heeft er wel voor gezorgd dat er constant hard ontwikkeld wordt aan het programma. Dat heeft op zijn beurt weer geresulteerd in een nieuwe versie van de software: 3.4.0. De release bevat een hoop veranderingen die hier allemaal op een rijtje staan. Als nieuwe features treffen we het volgende aan:

• "Restore" function added to the Statistics window (CTRL-S). Users can restore the downloaded portion of deleted emails by selecting the email from the Mail Log tab of the Statistics window and either clicking "Restore" or by right-clicking and selecting "Restore Email".
• Quick reply button added (Hotkey Q or button in Preview pane / window). This feature launches a "New Email" window using the default Windows mail client allowing users to create quick replies to messages in the MailWasher window.
• Pressing "Ctrl-Shift-M" will now restore MailWasher from the system tray.
• Users can set their own "on new mail" sound (Tools->Options).
• Added more heuristic options to the Spam Tools system.
• Accounts Hotkey Changed to F8.
• Pressing "Esc" while mail is checking will now stop the operation.
• Users can now completely disabled message logging (Tools->Options->Summary tab).
• Users can now alter the number of days the Message Log keeps records for (Tools->Options->Summary tab).
• Added "Status" column to the Mail Log tab of the Statistics window.
• Swapped the Register & Spam Tools buttons.
• MailWasher's IMAP Session is now flag aware and shows messages marked as "read" on the IMAP server as "read" in MailWasher.
• The state of the Show Hidden Emails option is now preserved between sessions.
• Mark and Unmark all for blacklist option added to the right-click menu on the main mail grid.
• ALT-T now opens the Tools menu, rather than Spam Tools menu which is now opened by CTRL-T.
• Added several important Firetrust email addresses to the default friends list.
• Added a "Clear" button to the Statistics window.
• Added filter option to disable the Report checkbox (used by FirstAlert! and SpamCop).
• The Statistics window now remembers the tab you were viewing last and will displays it by default the next time the window is opened.
• Added a progress bar to the Statistics window.
• Changed the AOL/Oscar implementation so that MailWasher works concurrently with other AOL applications (such as AOL, AIM etc).
• Added a divider to the button bar on the main screen to separate the Spam Tools button from the other buttons.
• Changed the mouse cursor when over the Firetrust logo to better indicate the link to the Firetrust web site.

Jammer dat Mailwasher de laatste tijd wordt uitgebreid met veel funties waarvoor je (extra) moet betalen. Bovendien zitten nieuwe functies op een niet intuitieve plaats in de gui, zoals de nieuwe quick reply functie.

Er is al meerdere malen gevraagd om een quick reply functie. Jammer dat je hiervoor toch nog het mailprogramma moet starten.

Ik ben een tijd lang een betalende en tevreden MailWasher gebruiker geweest, maar ik heb er eigenlijk een beetje genoeg van. Bouncen werkt toch niet en het is toch elke keer een extra handeling die je moet uitvoeren voor je je mail in Outlook hebt. Ook de nieuwe 'firstalert' functie kan me niet echt warm meer maken.

Ik ben dus nu overgestapt op SpamAssasin, een spamkiller op mijn mailserver. Werkt stukken fijner moet ik zeggen.

Ik gebruik nu alweer tijdje mailwasher, en die undelete functie is toch wel erg fijn, als je hem namelijk beetje goed insteld zodat je geen extra handelingen hoeft te verichten (dat ie dus van zelf spam weg gooit) kan een enkele keer lijden tot dat er een verkeerd emailtje weg gegooit word (bij mij in al die tijd 1 keer gebeurd)

Inderdaad... ook zeer goede ervaringen mee. Het voordeel van deze mailwasher Pro is dan weer dat ie overweg kan met IMAP servers, wat als ik me niet vergis bij K9 niet het geval is. In mijn geval niet erg, aangezien er op de IMAP server toch spamassassin draait :-)
