Software-update: Evolution 1.5 unstable

De ontwikkelaars van GNOME's ingebouwde e-mail client Evolution hebben in overeenstemming met hun planning een eerste versie in de 1.5-serie van hun software uitgegeven. De release heeft als status unstable meegekregen en dient om zoveel mogelijk bugs die hun lelijke kop hebben opgestoken in het ontwikkelproces aan een enkeltje /dev/null te helpen. In de aankondiging lezen we het volgende over de nieuwe versie:

Upgrade Notes:
Evolution 1.5 can be installed at the same time as 1.4.x. However note that there are still some bugs migrating data from 1.4.x to 1.5 and that 1.5 stores its information in ~/.evolution rather than ~/evolution/ so that if you add new info in 1.5 in will not show up in 1.4.x.

What Has Changed:
Evolution 1.5 has fixed some major architectural issues and sees the splitting out of the addressbook, calendar and task data access into a separate library for other projects to use. Shell components are now much more simplified.

We have also untangled the GUI quite a bit making the components (mail, tasks, etc) more individual and improving the usage experience for the user. [break]De sources van de nieuwe release staan hier, onderverdeeld in een aantal pakketjes.

idd, Evolution zit niet bij gnome, maar is een product van [url="http://Ximian"]Ximian[/url].
Ximian houdt zich bezig met het klaarstomen van linux voor de enterprise, vandaar dat er ook workgroups etc in Ximian zitten.
Er is bijvoorbeeld ook een "Ximianfied" openoffice, die de integratie met ms office wat zou verbeteren en wat betere printsupport etc heeft.

Ik gebruik ximian als mijn standaard mailclient en misschien een beetje een agenda ofzo Heeft altijd goed gewerkt

Je kan altijd een symlink maken voor de overstap naar 1.5
ln -s ~/evolution ~/.evolution

Best wel jammer dat Evolution nog niet voor Windows beschikbaar is. Het is echt een geweldige mail client. Doet zeker niet ten onder aan Microsoft Outlook.

Heeft trouwens wel lang geduurt van 1.4.x naar 1.5..

euh evolution is echt niet in gnome ingebouwt.
