Software-update: PowerToys 0.16.1

Microsoft heeft een update voor versie 0.16.0 van PowerToys uitgebracht. De PowerToys zijn een verzameling kleine programma's voor powerusers. Er waren PowerToys voor Windows 95 en Windows XP en niet zo lang geleden is Microsoft ook begonnen met de ontwikkeling van een versie voor Windows 10. Op dit moment zijn er nog maar drie programma's in de verzameling, te weten FancyZones, Windows key shortcut guide en PowerRename, meer staan er op stapel. De releasenotes voor deze versie kunnen hieronder worden gevonden.

Release v0.16.1

This is patch release to fix a few items for 0.16. This release will fix the issues below:

• New utilities are turned on by default for upgrades - (#1878)
• Correct localization bug - (#1795)
• RDP bug in FancyZones - (#1821)
• Focus bug in Window Walker - (#1800)
• Added telem to actually know if Window Walker was enabled (#1925)
• Make user aware of dual MSIX and MSI install issue, partial solution (#1920)
• fixed FancyZone crash with Unity (#1873)

Microsoft en de GPL - dat lijkt me iets wat fundamenteel niet kan bestaan. Microsoft heeft weliswaar een licentie die er op lijkt, maar zijn zullen zelden de GPLv2 of 3 willen gebruiken. Of vergis ik me?

Valt onder Microsoft Contributor License Agreement maar tweakers heeft deze niet als category... Je bent niet de eerste die dit opmerkt.

Microsoft is eigenaar van GitHub;
After the EU approved Microsoft’s acquisition of GitHub, Nat Friedman, CEO of GitHub announced today that the company is now officially owned by Microsoft. The Redmond giant spent $7.5 billion in stock to acquire the web-based hosting service earlier this year, but just like LinkedIn, GitHub will continue to operate independently as a company.
“We will start by focusing on the daily experience of using GitHub and will double down on our paper cuts project,” Friedman wrote today. “We will improve core scenarios like search, notifications, issues/projects, and our mobile experience. And of course we are excited to make GitHub Actions broadly available,” he continued.
Back in June, the initial acquisition announcement was met with some hostility from developers, but that apparently didn’t impact GitHub’s business. As spotted by Geekwire, GitHub actually gained 3 million developers since June, and has now crossed 31 million users overall.

Nee gelukkig niet. Ik zou persoonlijk zelf ook niet snel iets willen gebruiken wat onder GPL valt. Meestal wil ik best mijn code delen (niet altijd) en ik wil ontwikkelaars die mijn code gebruiken ook niet opzadelen met het virale GPL.
