Software-update: The Bat! 8.3

Ritlabs heeft versie 8.3 van zijn e-mailprogramma The Bat uitgebracht. Het programma biedt ondersteuning voor verschillende pop3- en imap4-accounts, en heeft een Bayesiaans spamfilter en uitgebreide zoek- en filtermogelijkheden. Verder is er ondersteuning voor pgp, end-to-end encryption en de e-mails kunnen versleuteld op de harde schijf worden opgeslagen. Verder zijn er geen minimumsysteemeisen. Het werkt op de oudste hardware, maar kan ook overweg met de AVX-512 instruction set, die in de Intel's Xeon Phi x200 Knights Landing gevonden kan worden. De changelog voor deze uitgave ziet er als volgt uit:

• (#0001455) Fixed the bug "TLS protocol error" Internal error GenerateKeyBlockCipher when connecting to servers with DES/3DES ciphers (a bug of The Bat! v8.2.8)
• (#0001456) Fixed an access violation on exit when The Bat! was configured to be minimized to the System Tray

Heb nog een 7.z versie Wil dus eigenlijk overstappen naar Thunderbird, maar kan het Bat bestand niet overzetten naar Thunderbird. Anders was ik al lang overgestapt.

Koppel met imap, zet alles terug op de server en start thunderbird met imap. et presto.

Staat nog allemaal in pop3.

Details van the bat ken ik niet, maar in thunderbird zou ik het als volgd doen:
- pop email ophalen uit zetten zodat ze niet meer naar nieuwe mail kijkt.
- account met imap toevoegen (zodat je er 2 ziet, ook al is het 2 keer de zelfde)
- berichten van pop account naar imap account kopiëren
- pop account loskoppelen
daarna staat alles in het imap account.

Hopelijk kan the bat ook 2 accounts tegelijk aan.

Je kunt gewoon losse berichten importeren, gaat perfect.

Gebruik dat al sinds 199x... Met dus als voordeel dat ik ook nog aan mijn mails van 199x kan.

Oude interface vind ik minder erg. Ben er ondertussen een beetje aan gewend/gehecht. Indertijd waren de grote voordelen dat je veel dingen kon automatiseren, en dat het een goede backupfunctie had. In combinatie met de christmas promoties van vroeger was het ook niet de prijs.

Wat jammer is (tov outlook), is dat er nooit een kalenderfunctie is bijgekomen. Of andere functies.

imap werkt goed genoeg, is zeker de laatste versies verbeterd.
