Software-update: Halite 0.3.4

Binary Notions heeft een nieuwe versie van zijn Bittorrent-client Halite uitgebracht. Dit programma, dat zijn naam aan het gelijknamige mineraal dankt, is opensource en wordt door de Ier Eóin O'Callaghan ontwikkeld. Halite maakt gebruik van de door Arvid Norberg gemaakte libtorrent-bibliotheek en enkele Boost-bibliotheken. Hieronder is een lijst met de belangrijkste veranderingen in deze release te vinden.

Changes: from v 0.3.3 to 0.3.4:

• Updated to libtorrent 0.16.6
  This is basically the monster change! Full credits to Arvid Norberg here for all the real work.
• Dropped file renaming and those "hash" folders as they were causing undue trouble.
• Added support for LT Trackers
• Updated to OpenSSL 1.0.1c
• Updated to Boot 1.52
• Compiled with Visual C++ 2012

Eindelijk, Ik ging bijna van uit dat de ontwikkelaar zich gestort had op een andere hobby project en dat dit project dood is.

Niettemin heeft het al sterke 'concurrentie' van andere open source Bittorrent clients als Transmission (en windows-fork), Deluge en qBittorrent.

Het grote voordeel dat deze client heeft is dat hij ook heel portable is. Heb hem gewoon op een USB-stickje staan en kan hem overal gebruiken. Voor de andere clients is dit blijkbaar een probleem?
(Hoewel het met een omweg ook met µtorrent kan)
