Versie 4.0 van Maxthon is verschenen. Deze webbrowser maakt gebruik van de Trident- of WebKit-engine om webpagina's weer te geven, maar heeft een eigen interface met allerlei extra functionaliteit, waaronder mouse gestures en onlinebookmarks. Standaard wordt de door Apple Safari en Google Chrome gebruikte WebKit-engine gebruikt om pagina's te renderen, maar ook de Trident-engine van Internet Explorer is aanwezig. Er kan eenvoudig tussen beide engines worden gewisseld. In versie 4.0, die voor Windows, OS X, iOS en Android verkrijgbaar is, heeft de browser onder meer een nieuw uiterlijk gekregen en wordt voor allerlei functionaliteit van de cloud gebruikgemaakt.
