Versie 3.1.8.1000 van Maxthon is uitgebracht. Maxthon is ooit onder de naam MyIE2 begonnen als een zogeheten wrapper om Internet Explorer. Het programma maakt gebruik van de interne motor van IE om webpagina's weer te geven, maar heeft een eigen interface met allerlei extra functionaliteit, waaronder mouse gestures en onlinebookmarks. In versie 3.0 is de IE-engine Trident nog steeds aanwezig, maar wordt standaard de WebKit-engine gebruikt. Deze wordt onder andere gebruikt door Apples Safari en Googles Chrome. Er kan eenvoudig tussen beide engines worden gewisseld. Sinds versie 3.1.7 zijn de volgende veranderingen en verbeteringen aangebracht:

Thunder Downloader Module
- Focus problem when chose to fill in the Magic Fill in its drop-down list.

Trident Core
- Language display problem when the first time used Maxthon Thunder Downloader in English OS.
- Thunder Downloader Module might crash when closed Maxthon browser.
Favorites
- High memory usage problem.
