Het nieuws, ook hier op Tweakers.net, laat zien dat er steeds weer nieuwe beveiligingsproblemen in software worden ontdekt. Windows, maar ook andere besturingssystemen, zijn in staat om automatisch updates op te halen en te installeren. Maar daarmee alleen ben je er nog niet. Ook andere programma's op de computer kunnen een gevaar vormen. Het is dus zaak om up-to-date te blijven. Dit is waar Personal Software Inspector van het Deense beveiligingsbedrijf Secunia bij kan helpen. Dit gratis programma scant de computer en geeft vervolgens een overzicht van de aanwezige software en welke programma's een bekend beveiligingsprobleem hebben. Indien voorhanden, wordt ook een oplossing voor het probleem aangedragen.
De laatste stabiele versie is 1.5.0.2 en deze is van eind mei. Secunia is ook met de ontwikkeling van versie 2.0 bezig. Nieuw in versie 2.0 is onder andere dat het programma zelf updates op kan halen. Drie weken geleden is versie 1.9.0.4 verschenen en deze werd met het volgende changelog geleverd:

- Colored tray-icon: The new tray icon changes color depending on the Secunia System Score in your Secunia PSI
- Added extra graph to the dashboard: The graph shows the total number of security patches released month-by-month for your installed software portfolio/programs
- Added "Auto-Updates History" to the dashboard: Shows you the total number of patches installed including when the last update was installed using auto-update
- Updated icons and rearranged the menu under "Patch Your PC"
- Removed the word "Missing" from the Scan Results menu as it could be misleading
- Added search to Scan Results: Making it possible to search program names and paths to locate a specific entry
- Moved configuration options on Scan Results: The configuration options are now available by clicking the "tool" icon on the right hand side
- Easy access to folder and creation of ignore rules: When expanding a program entry on the Scan Results, it is now possible to access the "Open Folder" and "Ignore Program" features through a single click
- Language support in Auto-Update: You are now able to configure the language of programs, such as Mozilla Firefox that ships in multiple languages, enabling the Secunia PSI to download and install the selected localised version
- Improved handling of programs that are updated using Microsoft Update
- Added link to the Secunia PSI manual from within the Learn More menu
- The installer now allows you to deselect Auto-Updates: If you don't want Auto-Updates to run automatically when you install the Secunia PSI, you can now disable it during the installation process
- Option to require user interaction before updates are installed: New setting that allow you to require user interaction before the Secunia PSI automatically installs new patches
- Improved detection of drives: Drives are now properly detected and removed when you scan your PC
- Added the Secure Browsing feature: Secure Browsing known from the Secunia PSI 1.5 has been added to the Secunia PSI 2.0. For the Secure Browsing feature to be shown, you must enable it on the settings page
- Updated "splash screen" shown during start up: A new "splash screen" has been implemented, which is more informative in terms of what is going on during start-up of the Secunia PSI
- Fixed various minor bugs
