Software-update: NewsBin 4.01

markvt meldde dat er een nieuwe versie van NewsBin is uitgebracht. Het versienummer staat op 4.01. Je kunt hem hier neerhalen. Hieronder het changelog:

Fixes/Enhancements

• Fixed problem where large subjects (> 255 bytes) would result in a download failure.
• Fixed problem with signature cache hits not getting added to the post id cache.
• Made change to improve memory management for 2K/XP users.

Known Issues

• Bytes queued for download counter wraps at 4GB
• Skip Group button on toolbar is disabled.
• Icons in Toolbar have wrong transparency color
• The descript.ion file will not get updated unless at least the "Log Subject" option is selected. Will not log poster and date by itself.

Misschien kan er in de nieuwspost (voortaan) vermeld worden wat het programma doet, dit staat wat netter.

Helemaal mee eens. En dat geldt voor alle software updates. Plus wat voor licentie eraan vastzit en dan suggereer ik oa. deze opties:
- Freeware
- Spyware
- Shareware
- Demoware / Trialware
Voor de niet zo vaak langsfietsende hobbyist is dat al een heleboel informatie die op dat moment graag gezien wordt.

What is NewsBin and What Can it Do for Me?

NewsBin is a tool to help you find cool stuff in Newsgroups which are located on Usenet. For a good description of Usenet, read this article from ZDNET, ICS, or this article. Basically, Usenet is a worldwide message board where people can discuss certain topics, and upload Music, Pictures, Movies, and other binaries (file attachments that are computer readable, not human readable), for free.

So where does NewsBin come in? NewsBin does all this automatically for you. NewsBin will scan newsgroups that you specify for binary attachments and will download and decode these attachments for you. You can then use a picture viewer or a multimedia player to view or play the content you downloaded.

Waarom zou je die links niet mogen posten? Is toch helemaal niet illegaals of duisters aan een binary news forum? T' is maar net hoe de gebruiker er mee om gaat!

Handige tool die ongeveer hetzelfde kan doen is Grabit van Shemes?

Is inderdaad voor hetzelfde doel geschreven, al heb ik GrabIt ontwikkeld omdat ik NewsBin toen een klote programma vond. Dus GrabIt doet het uiteraard veel beter.
