Het programma RSSOwl kan de laatste nieuwtjes van verschillende rss-, rdf- en atomfeeds via het internet ophalen. Het opzoeken van nieuwsstukken gebeurt via de zoekfunctie en dankzij de tabbed interface houd je overzicht op al het aangeboden nieuws. De ontwikkelaar is opnieuw begonnen met ontwikkelen voor RSSOwl 2.0 en heeft gekozen om het Eclipse Rich Client Platform als ondergrond te gebruiken. Daardoor kan RSSOwl als alleenstaand programma of als extensie van Eclipse gebruikt worden. De ontwikkelaar heeft de tweede release candidate van RSSOwl 2.0 Milestone 9 uitgebracht en voorzien van de volgende aankondiging:
