AVG Technologies heeft versie 8.0.234 van AVG Anti-virus Free Edition uitgebracht. Deze gratis versie van AVG's antivirusprogramma beschermt evengoed tegen virussen, maar moet het in vergelijking met zijn grote betaalde broer, AVG Anti-virus Pro, onder meer zonder rootkit- en instantmessagingbescherming stellen. Een andere beperking is dat het programma slechts in een beperkt aantal talen beschikbaar is en niet in commerciële omgevingen gebruikt mag worden. In versie 8.0.234 is herkenning voor een nieuw polymorfisch virus met de naam Win32/Virut toegevoegd, maar omdat er bij het schrijven over versie 8.0.233 nog geen changelog beschikbaar was, pikken we die ook nog even mee, aangezien dat een belangrijke update was:
