Software-update: Avant Browser 11.7 build 20

Avant Force heeft woensdag versie 11.7 build 20 van Avant Browser uitgebracht. Deze webbrowser maakt deels gebruik van Internet Explorer, maar voegt daar extra functionaliteit aan toe, zoals een pop-up blocker, tabbed browsing, een zoekbalk en de mogelijkheid om door gebruik te maken van skins het uiterlijk van het programma aan te passen. Een deel van deze mogelijkheden worden ook door versie 7 van IE aangeboden. Avant Browser kan echter al gebruikt worden vanaf Internet Explorer 5.5. Sinds versie 11 is het mogelijk om je profiel online te bewaren, waardoor je overal toegang hebt tot je bookmarks, rss-feeds en instellingen. Hieronder is te vinden wat er allemaal sinds de vorige vermelding in de Meuktracker veranderd is:

• Shortened the floating toolbar popup time
• Fixed a bug that address box may not response to [Enter]
• Fixed a bug that adding bookmark function may not work with IE7

Avant Browser 11.7 build 19:

• Fixed the bug stopping Avant Browser from tiling properly along with other application windows
• Fixed the bug where "Avant Browser" kept being shown in the UserAgent string
• Fixed the bug stopping the uploaded files from being attached to the Attachments list
• Fixed the bug where the Email button on floating toolbar caused Avant to crash
• Fixed the bug stopping the Minimize button on the windows toolbar from functioning like the one in the top right corner
• Fixed the bug that the successively opened popup windows keep moving to the bottom of the screen
• Fixed the bug that wasn't supporting the scrollbar outline style property
• Fixed the displaying miscoded username bug in Autofill
• Fixed the bug where the address bar drop down list screened the address bar if you set the tab bar to the bottom
• Fixed the bug that Chinese hints of the search results of the bookmarks are miscoded
• Fixed the bug where the Autofill is not working in some pages
• Fixed the bug which the RSS items are unread if you opened them in new windows
• Fixed the bug that stopped the address bar from being selected with ALT+D or F6 if the cursor was already focused in the address bar
• Fixed the bug stopping the focus from switching between words in the address bar with CTRL + a direction key
• Fixed the bug where the bookmarks bar and the Organize Bookmarks window is blank if you checked Use IE Favorites as bookmarks option
• Fixed the bug that kept the browser temporarily freezing up sometimes when you were visiting a blocked URL
• Updated the displaying and disappearing time of the floating toolbar

kan iemand mij uitleggen wat iemand bezielt om met de render engine van IE een nieuwe browser te maken?
En daar het klaarblijkelijk al een tijdje bestaat neem ik aan dat er genoeg mensen zijn die het nog daadwerkelijk downloaden en gebruiken ook.

Is mij persoonlijk ook een raadsel! Voor de pro-user bestaan er toch veel betere browsers? En wie anders dan een geek gebruikt deze browser aangezien er amper (geen?) promotie voor deze browser wordt gemaakt...

Er zijn nog steeds bedrijven die gebruik maken van IE6. Soms omdat ze nog geen XP gebruiken (zoals bij mij in het bedrijf), soms omdat ze bepaalde sites móeten gebruiken die uitsluitend(!) op IE6 functioneren (ook bij mij in het bedrijf). En dan is het prettig dat je zoiets als Avant Browser kunt gebruiken: veel extra gebruiksgemak tov IE6 terwijl het zonder problemen op die 'moeilijke' sites werkt.

Ja, dan moeten die websites maar bijgewerkt worden door de bedrijven die ze maken en onderhouden en ja, dan moet je XP of Vista maar gaan gebruiken. De theorie is mooi, de realiteit is hardnekkig. Tot die tijd maak ik m'n gebruikers een stuk gelukkig door Avant Browser even te installeren.

Tov IE7 of Firefox voegt het idd weinig toe, maar voor IE6-gevallen is het enorm prettig werken.

Als je gebruik wilt maken van tabbed browsing en IE6, dan zou je ook kunnen overwegen om Firefox+IETab te gebruiken - op die manier heb je een snelle browser (o.a. qua JavaScript performance en met Fx 3.1 wordt dat nog beter) voor de normale sites en kun je de IE6-only sites door de Trident engine af laten handelen dmv IETab.

Maar goed, mocht je zelf liever alle sites in IE6 weergeven, dan is Avant Browser inderdaad een van de vele opties die er zijn

Dat wist ik niet. Ik zat me net af te vragen waarom iemand deze browser zou willen gebruiken.. Dat van die bookmarks en rss-feeds is rete handig, en standaard ingebouwd nog wel.

Ik heb nog geen Firefox add-on gevonden die dat ook doet. Of ik ben scheel, dat kan ook.

Tnx. Handig, maar 't zijn toch enkel bookmarks die je kunt synchroniseren met die add-on, geen feeds en instellingen.

Voor het synchroniseren van je bookmarks kun je Foxmarks gebruiken

Weave is een goed begin maar wordt pas echt wat als je ook add-ons kunt synchroniseren.
